How Christianity Has Shaped Our
Calendar. October 7
The calendar we use today is really a Roman invention.
It was created using ideas from Babylon, Egypt and
Greece. During this hour, Valley member Chuck Meyer will
help us to examine the contributions of those earlier
civilizations; see how increasing accuracy of time
management led to reforms in the calendar and learn the
role Christianity played in these changes.
History of the Pipe Organ. October 14
Come and join Valley's Music Director, Dr. Philip
Everingham as he shares with us his love and knowledge
of music. Our new pipe organ will soon grace our
sanctuary and this is a great opportunity to learn more
about this beautiful instrument.
Ethics in
Politics, October 21
Valley welcomes State Senator, Ann Rest (SD45) and
Minnesota State Representative, Lyndon Carlson (SD45B)
as featured speakers in this forum on Ethics in
Politics. Both legislators are seasoned contenders:
Senator Rest spent 16 years in the Minnesota House of
Representatives before running for the Senate in 2000,
chaired the House Tax Committee and currently chairs the
powerful Finance Committee in the House. No stranger to
politics, Valley's own Betty Folliard, current Elder and
former State Representative will facilitate this forum.
