Horsing Around
A Junior High Mission Trip
Dates: July 7-11, 2010
Last month the junior high youth
group voted on where they would like to go for their
summer mission trip and they were enthusiastically
embraced by their first choice,
Jeremiah’s Crossing.
Jeremiah's Crossing is a
therapeutic horseback-riding ranch in Central Wisconsin,
dedicated to helping horses help kids.
Jeremiah's Crossing is all
about the special bond that forms between a child and an
equine friend that can change that child's life forever.
The ranch sits on a 138-acre site located just
outside of Babcock, WI. Jeremiah’s Crossing is a
work-in-progress, surrounded by woods and wildlife,
where children with special needs, and those who are
children at heart, are encouraged to participate in
Equine Assisted Activities.
On our trip we will likely be
clearing acres of land so that JCI can use them for
pastures. Some of our older students might get to
interact with the horses and children that are at the
camp that week. Guides must be at least 14 years old.
The biggest challenge may be adjusting to the sleeping
facilities. We will be staying in tents at a local
campground. Showers, fire pits, a lake for swimming, and
other amenities are available at the campground, but it
will definitely be an adventure to cook all of our meals
over an open fire. Our Boy Scout members may find
themselves in high demand.
Fourteen youth, ages 11-15, and five adults are going on
this summer's mission trip. If you would like to know
more about mission at Valley, please contact Sarah
Bigwood at sarah.bigwood
at valleychurch.net. We will need tents and
camping equipment.
