Hello! I’m Sheila Sheldon and I am very excited to join the staff at Valley as the Educational Ministries Director. Prior to coming on staff in May 2018, I was the Family Ministries elder for 5 years which allowed me to build many relationships with families at Valley. Also, as the Community Garden Coordinator the last 4 years I have worked not only with Valley members but built relationships with people from the broader community who garden with us. I believe strongly in the message that we proclaim here at Valley that “All are Welcome.”

Professionally, I worked for the Minneapolis Public Schools for twenty-one years as a Special Education Assistant specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorders. I hold a special education certificate from MPS in Autism and Developmental Cognitive Delays. I also attended Globe College/MN School of Business with a focus in medical assisting and have credits equal to an Associate in Applied Science Degree. I enjoy learning and jump at the opportunity to learn more as often as I can.

I live in Saint Paul with my husband, Hunter and two sons, Ben and Sam. We came to Valley with family and have been members since 2006. It is pretty special to say that four generations of our family worship together every week. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring the Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valley, hanging out with friends and cherishing every minute I have with my grandma, Lois.

We are part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) denomination.

We were officially organized on May 20, 1951 when Golden Valley and the surrounding suburbs were first growing in the post-war building boom.

The original chapel, now the Cornerstone Room, was built in 1952.

The Fellowship Hall was added in 1957.

The current sanctuary was added in 1965.

The Education wing was added in 1988.

The current sanctuary was built with space for an organ which took over 40 years to arrive. Read more about the history of our organ.

Valley Church currently has almost 500 members.

Our neighborhood in Golden Valley is experiencing a resurgence of young families.
