Youth

Young people have a special place at Valley

Children and youth spaces at Valley are large and located in the center of the church building. Children and youth ministries are supported by dedicated directors and a large group of committed volunteers. Many of our former youth return to our programs as trusted adult leaders.

YOUTH GROUP
We meet on Sunday Nights from 6:00 - 8:00 pm throughout the year. We start by gathering together in the main entrance where we greet one another and share news about upcoming events. We then move to our youth rooms where we share information about our week, discuss stories and topics relevant to our lives as teenagers, play games, and pray together.

Middle School Youth Group (grades 6-8)
Senior High Youth Groups (grades 9-12)

MISSION
Central to our faith is learning about the ways in which people are hurting and in need. Our young people are involved in building relationships with individuals and agencies that are meeting some of those needs. They are actively engaged in solving problems and practicing skills to help alleviate suffering. They do this work throughout the year.

Our congregation has been offering summer mission trips for our teenagers graduating from grades 6th-12th for over 35 years. These trips leave a profound impact on our children and their adult leaders.

CONFIRMATION
Teenagers have so many life changing decisions to make: how much to study, where to go to college, how to drive, which friends to spend time with, what career path to follow, or whether to get confirmed and join the church.

The way we choose to receive and interpret God's guidance during the pivotal moments in our lives, when our paths become unclear, can have profound impacts on how we live our lives and how we serve God.

At Valley, we view confirmation as an opportunity to teach young people how to listen to God, engage in an intentional period of discernment, and find the best spiritual practices that will draw them closer to God.

CLEARWATER
Valley has a long standing relationship with Presbyterian Clearwater Forest, a beautiful Christian Camp and Conference Center located in the heart of Minnesota's most popular resort and recreation area. Clearwater Forest encompasses more than 1000 acres of pristine forest and 3.5 miles of lake shore.

Youth at Valley have many opportunities to visit Clearwater throughout the year. As campers and councilors, youth can attend week-long summer camps that include sailing, swimming, singing, campfires, and much more. There are also opportunities in the fall and winter months to visit Clearwater for retreats and gatherings that include other youth throughout the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area.

Smith Family

After attending a wedding at Valley and getting to know Pastor Richard and his wife - Jean Ann, we decided to visit on Sunday a few weeks later as we were searching for a new church home. Feeling like kids on the first day of school, we apprehensively shuffled out of the sanctuary following the service and were immediately approached by warm smiling faces. We agreed to partake in the beloved coffee and donut hour where we met more people than we could count. In that moment, we were home!

Everyone at Valley is part of a family. We take care of each others kids, host birthday parties for one another and generally “do life” together. Our community, however, doesn’t just include those of us who sit next to one another on Sundays. There is no shortage of opportunities to make an impact outside the Valley walls.

One more thing worth highlighting is that Valley loves our little worshipers. They are beloved members within the community; they have their own special play space IN the sanctuary, partake in a children’s sermon during Sunday service and have an abundance of programming to learn, grow and just be kids. This place is truly special; I do not know what we would do without Valley.
